My name is Daniel Elford and I’m an English language teacher! I finished my degree in Philosophy at the University of Ottawa in the spring of 2007 and since that time I have in some way, shape, or form been teaching English. I began my teaching career in South Korea in the city of Busan at a high school in August of 2007. I taught for one year with the EPIK program, until August 2008. Towards the end of my first year in South Korea I realized that I had a lot to learn in the field of language teaching, so I returned to Canada and completed my Trinity and Canada TESOL certifications at Coventry College in Toronto in teaching English as a second language (ESL). After my year back in Canada studying ESL I was hungry for more experience teaching overseas. I went back to South Korea in August 2009, this time to a very small town, and I taught at a very prestigious dormitory high school for a further 3 years, again with the EPIK program. During my time in Korea I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel East and South East Asia, including: Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. I back-packed and taught my way around the last four countries listed for 6 months, it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
After completing my East and South East Asian adventures, I decided that I wanted to see and experience a different part of the world. I spent the last 6 months of 2012 traveling and teaching my way through Europe. I back-packed through 20 different countries.
In January 2013 I returned to my home city of Ottawa, Canada. I started tutoring Philosophy and ESL both privately and at the University of Ottawa, I have been doing that ever since I returned. I now have plans to go back to school and complete a master’s degree in education and to someday teach in a more professional setting.
Currently I have students from all over the world and across all age groups and English language competency levels. I’ve taught hundreds of students since January 2013, helping them succeed in their academic, professional, and personal lives. I teach and have taught high school students, diplomats, university and college students, house moms, recent immigrants, government workers, tourists, and exchange professionals.
